  • Swedish has special adverbs that show WHERE something is (location) versus WHERE something moves TO (direction).
  • For example: "hemma" = at home (location), "hem" = homeward (direction/motion).
  • Similar pairs: inne/in, ute/ut, uppe/upp, nere/ner, borta/bort.
  • Use the LOCATION form when nothing is moving; use the DIRECTION form when movement is involved.
  • Watch the verb in the sentence – it is your best clue!
